Item 1687, l’année où les corsaires algériens firent leur apparition en mer du Nord(2021-12-29) Van Krieken, GerardIn June 1687, an Algerian sailor and four European prisoners met in the North Sea: a French clergyman, two German brothers and the captain of the Oranjeboom. The sailor, Mahamat, was on board one of the six privateers which, under the command of Admiral Canary, had sailed north through the Channel in search of booty. The pastor, Brassard, and the two Wolfgang brothers were passengers on a ship sailing from London to Rotterdam. The skipper of the Oranjeboom, Paulsen, came from Norway. At the end of that year, all five were in prison. The four Europeans in Algiers, the Algerian in France, in Toulon. Their captivity was not permanent. Some time later, they were all able to return home. This article deals with the incursion of Algerian privateers into the North Sea and the vicissitudes of these privateers and their victims.Item A Blended Approach For Teaching Efl Writing At University Level(Faculté des Langues Etrangères. Université d'Alger 2 Abu Al-Qasim Saadallah, 2019-09-30) Arar, SamiraThis paper attempts to suggest ways of improving EFL writing instruction at tertiary level by exploring the interrelationship between writing, metacognition and blended learning. In accordance with the research findings of a former doctoral study (Arar, 2015), this article describes some applications of a suggested writing instructional model that combines principles from three approaches: Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach, Computer Assisted Writing, and Writing Across the Curriculum. The aim of the proposed writing framework is to develop students’ metacognitive awareness during the writing process, as well as meet learners’ writing and learning needs via a more authentic and contextual writing instruction that promotes language, writing, technology use, and autonomy. The overall objective of this paper is to illustrate classroom applications of this instructional model that strives for improving students’ achievement in writing and in EFL learning.Item A Critical Review Of The Role Of Language Assessment Training In Developing Teachers’ Language Assessment Literacy(Faculté des Langues Etrangères. Université d'Alger 2 Abu al-Qasim Saadallah, 2019-06-01) Ameziani, Samia; Amrane, LamiaThis study examines two research papers published in academic journals and available on the web. Although both articles hold a common objective, namely the evaluation of language assessment programs, a different methodology is followed. The aim of this study is to critically analyze and compare these two papers in terms of research background, research design and procedure, analysis and presentation of results, discussion of findings, conclusion and implications. Evaluating Teachers’ Assessment training is of significance because it allows the stakeholders to figure out whether the future teachers are well prepared to conduct assessment efficiently in the classroom. The present study will help to identify valid and ethical papers that can serve the research field. . The results of this analysis show that Hatipoglo‘s research is valid and reliable, but it is poorly designed and structured whereas Lam’s research is reliable, valid, and well designed.Item A Discourse Analysis Of James Joyce’s Construction Of Identity In Dubliners And A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man(Faculté des Langues Etrangères. Université d'Alger 2 Abu al-Qasim Saadallah, 2020-06-30) Ferhi, SamirThe present paper attempts to acknowledge and dig out the largely unexplored late Victorian and Edwardian ethos of subjectivity in James Joyce’s Dubliners (1914) and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916) and to show that Joyce himself, like much of his characters was bound by the ideologies of his age namely nationalism, Catholicism as well as gender conditions. In other words, this short analysis aims to show that Joyce’s collection of short stories and his novel not only give the surfaces of daily life in turn of the century Dublin, but they also expose the discursive and cultural contexts, ideologies, religiosity and gender forces that colonized Irish modern subjectivity.Item A Discourse Approach To Grammar And Its Use In Reading And Writing Courses(Faculté des Langues Etrangères. Université d'Alger 2 Abou El Kacem Saadallah, 2009-06-15) Hamitouche, FatihaThis paper examines the role of discourse in EFL learning and teaching . More specifically it looks at how raising discourse awareness and competence can help learners and teachers in the development of reading and writing skills. The paper looks at two main point: the study of some grammatical features through a discourse approach and the application of discourse analysis to reading and writingItem A glimpse of the exploitation of Africa in Joseph Conrad’s "heart of darkness": the use of Halliday’s transitivity analysis in unraveling ideologies(مجلة "أفكار وآفاق". 2021-05-05) Meissa Larbaoui, Meissa; Noureddine Guerroudj, NoureddineAbstract: In the colonial period, the African nations witnessed tremendous massacres from the elites. They endured great suffering in terms of oppression and racism, and their identity was fading and westernized coercively. In the post-colonial period, the imperialists’ acts and their exploitation of Africa were portrayed in different literary works to shed light on concealed facts and describe the brutal situation and chaos of the Africans at that time. Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” was one of the most conspicuous literary pieces on that topic. It described the cruelty of colonialism and the intensity of racism with leaving opposing and contentious opinions towards the real position of the writer in the topic of imperialism. The writer used a myriad of linguistic structures to reveal his intentions and describe the different events of the story. Therefore, the ideology of the writer can be detected by analyzing his linguistic choices. The functionalist stylistic came up with different strategies of analyzing literary discourse through describing the linguistic choices. Transitivity is among the most used ones in literary discourse. This paper deals with applying Halliday’s transitivity strategy to analyze a literary excerpt from Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness”. It attempts to detect the author’s ideology towards imperialism and racism in Africa with bearing upon the language used in the discourse. The results revealed that Conrad was only stating the bitter truth by unveiling the real identity of the imperialists and depicting the suffering of the colonized people. As implications, it was suggested to implement transitivity in teaching literature as a stepping stone in literary discourse analysis to facilitate the students’ readability of different texts and trigger their critical thinking skills. Item A Person Approach To Impersonal Passive In Null Subject Languages And Elsewhere(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - مخبر اللسانيات وعلم الإجتماع اللغوي وتعليمية اللغات - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها- جامعة الجزائر02- أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2020-06-15) Shormani, MohammedIn this article, I propose a novel approach to impersonal passive in null subject languages (NSLs), and elsewhere, based mainly on Pers(on) feature and implicit arguments, e.g. pro. It is proposed that pro is the external argument of impersonal passive. pro is specified as a 3 generic/indefinite human agent, and is associated with the PM. The PM is projected as a PassP (= Passive Phrase) headed by Pass. PassP is assumed to be a phase, whose head, i.e. Pass, is ɸ-complete. Pass is assumed to have two probes, namely Agree Feature and Edge Feature (EF). EF is motivated by the unvalued [uGenr] feature, as a sub-feature of Person, and by LF interpretation reasons. This [uGenr] is also assumed to be a dissociated feature from ɸ-composition. Pass agrees with pro in impersonal passive. Like active, pro in our proposal merges in Spec-vP. In Spec-vP, pro values its -role of agent by v at Merge. An Agree is established between pro and Pass, the result of which is valuing Pass’s unvalued features and the unvalued Nom Case of pro. Pass’s EF triggers pro to remerge in its Spec, hence valuing Pass’s [uGenr] feature.Item A picture of Palestine through the books of Muslim travelers from the third to the seventh century(مجلة الدراسات التاريخية -قسم التاريخ كلية العلوم الانسانية, 2020-06-30) Weshah, GhassanPalestine occupied an important place in the books of Muslim travelers, and they described the holy places in Palestine in detail, whether they were Islamic or Christian, As they described in Palestinian cities such as Gaza, Jerusalem, Nablus and Hebron, they presented a true picture of Palestine because their narration came from direct viewing.Item A Propos De L’homme Dans La Littérature Féminine Algérienne D’expression Française : Discours Et Représentations(مجلة لغات ، تحليل الخطاب، والتداخل لكلية اللغات الأجنبية جامعة الجزائر 2 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2020-08-15) Rezzik, MohamedLa critique littéraire a maintes fois souligné que la littérature féminine algérienne d’expression française était restée fortement liée au contexte politique et social. Literary criticism has repeatedly pointed out that French-speaking Algerian women's literature has remained strongly linked to the political and social context. Literature could not but be affected, because it is connected to what is variously called "Algerian tragedy", "Algerian crisis", "black decade" ... etc. And to show the inscription of this political context in the works, it was necessary to resort to the socio-historical method. This approach is supposed to reveal to us the representation of man as a social being. Knowing further that literary texts are often determined by the conditions of production, as defined by Pierre Macherey.Item A Reshuffle Of The Roles Of Instructors And Learners In Online Education(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - مخبر اللسانيات وعلم الإجتماع اللغوي وتعليمية اللغات - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها- جامعة الجزائر02- أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2024-06-28) Sellami, YosraHow learning in general and second/foreign language learning occurs as a life and formal classroom pursuit has always been a contentious issue among psychologists, language teachers, and the learners themselves who display varying levels of motivation to learn and different outcomes presumably matching the effort invested. Attempts to understand the mechanisms of learning generally fall under two umbrellas: those concerned with theory such Skinner (1950), Chomsky (1965), Vygotsky (1978) and others, who have developed theoretical systems accounting for learning as controlled by stimulus-response, mental processes, and socially mediated interactions, respectively. On the practical side, much recent work was undertaken in relation to motivation as an overriding factor in second/foreign language learning (Gardner, 1990, 2001; Brooks 1999; Chance, 2014, Dörnyei, 1990, Dörnyei & Ushioda, 2011, etc.). These works consider motivation from internal and external standpoints and draw attention to personal, cognitive, and social factors as theoretical learning models.Item A study of empathy and interpersonal responsiveness among psychiatric nurses and nursing student interns.(مجلة دراسات في علم النفس الصحة-علم النفس الصحة و الوقاية ونوعية الحياة-كلية العلوم الاجتماعية-جامعة الجزائر2 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2025-05-06) Najah, Amira; Kaabi, Khawla; Ben Hmida, Molka; Zaiem, Ahmedhe objective of our research was to investigate the empathy and selected interpersonal reactivity of psychiatric nurses and undergraduate nursing students and to examine whether the gender factor could influence psychiatric nurses' empathy. 140 subjects participated in our study. They were divided into two groups: psychiatric nurses (n = 70) working in the psychiatry departments and undergraduate nursing students (n = 70) in their 3rd year of a bachelor's degree in nursing sciences who have completed their internship in psychiatry. They all responded to a preliminary questionnaire, the Scale of Nurse Perception of Own Empathy (SNPOE), the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), and the Questionnaire of Cognitive and Affective Empathy (QCAE). Results indicated that the majority of participants believe that the nursing role is important in psychiatry, and almost the majority of them possess certain knowledge about the meaning of empathy in a therapeutic relationship. In terms of the nurse's perception of their own empathy, there was no significant difference between the two groups. In terms of cognitive empathy, psychiatric nurses presented a significantly higher average on empathic concern than undergraduate nursing students. There is no significant difference in the other subscales. In terms of affective empathy, undergraduate nursing students had a significantly higher average on the proximal responsivity than psychiatric nurses. There was no significant difference in the other subscales. Among psychiatric nurses, female psychiatric nurses outperformed male psychiatric nurses in empathy and interpersonal reactivity. The study was able to highlight the importance of interpersonal reactivity and empathy within the therapeutic relationship in psychiatry. It is important to know that the mental health nursing profession deserves all its legitimacy and needs to be more developed in terms of training and educationItem A Survey Of Key English Translations Of The Holy Qur'an(Faculté des Langues Etrangères. Université d'Alger 2 Abou El Kacem Saadallah, 2013-01-01) Boutchacha, Djamal . The Qur'an was, and still is, the focus of interest in the world. Muslims and no Muslims alike, amongst those who don't know Arabic, seek to understand its message and access to its contents. Both parties managed no effort to achieve this goal through translation. Actually, the Quran has had its share of translation. To date, according to Istanbul Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture, and to The Centre for Translation of the Holy Qur'an, in Iran, the Qur'an has been translated into about 105 languages and the number of its translations - including complete translations, partial translations and selections - is tantamount to 1500 works. In this paper, which is a survey of English translations of the Holy Qur'an from the very beginning of this effort i.e. around 1515 to the present day, we will attempt to shed light only on key translations, chiefly those with special characteristics, special influence or which gained a reputation as good translations, and the authors of which had distinctive traits or scored a great success in the translation of this sacred book. Abstract Discourse markers of spoken English such as you know, I mean, well, see, so, and, but and many others perform animportant role in conversation. They have been the subject of investigation in a host of studies focusing on native and non- native speakers of English and have been assigned a multitude of terminologies and diverse definitions by various researchers. Therefore, this article will highlight the definitions allotted to discourse makers , their properties as well as their functions.Item Actes De Langage Et Discours Politique(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - مخبر اللسانيات وعلم الإجتماع اللغوي وتعليمية اللغات - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها- جامعة الجزائر02- أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2019-06-25) Berghout, NoudjoudCet article se veut une analyse du discours politique de deux présidents français, à savoir Chirak et Sarkozy lors de leurs visites en Algérie. This article is an analysis of the political discourse of two French presidents, namely Chirak and Sarkozy during their visits to Algeria. The approach taken is the pragmatic approach since it is about the study of indirect speech acts. We will therefore observe the different discursive and enunciative strategies put in place to convey very delicate questions relating to the Algerian warItem Addressing Socioeconomic Disparities In Children's Language Development: Insights, Challenges, And Interventions(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها - جامعة الجزائر 02 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2024-12-22) Makhlouf, AbdelkaderThis study addresses the pervasive issue of socioeconomic disparities in children's language development, drawing from a wide array of literature. The problem statement highlights the consistent findings indicating a substantial lag in language skills among children from low socioeconomic backgrounds compared to their affluent peers by age three. The main aim of this research is to underscore the necessity of tailored interventions aimed at bridging this gap and fostering language growth among economically disadvantaged children. The significance of the study lies in its emphasis on the crucial role of early parent-child communication quality, the impact of poverty on cognitive development and academic performance, the influence of caregiver input quality, and the differences in access to educational resources based on socioeconomic status. Methodologically, this research incorporates a comprehensive review of relevant literature, synthesizing insights from various studies conducted by researchers such as Hirsh-Pasek (2015), Miller (1995), Leroy (2017), Zimmerman (2017), and Suskind (2015). Findings underscore the importance of parental involvement and targeted interventions in improving language environments and outcomes for children from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Implications of this research include the urgent need for policy interventions and support systems aimed at addressing the enduring consequences of poverty on children's learning and cognitive growth, as well as the promotion of equitable access to educational resources and high-quality caregiver interactions.Item Africans Serving Empire(Faculté des Langues Etrangères. Université d'Alger 2 Abu Al-Qasim Saadallah, 2018-12-30) Bensemmane, M'hamedTwenty years span Joyce Carey’s Mister Johnson (1939) and Chinua Achebe’s No Longer at Ease (1960), two novels which focus on African agents of Empire who fail to meet the demands of official duty in the colony. As a man who spent part of his life serving Britain in West Africa, and who claimed knowledge of terrain and people, Joyce Cary has none the less been taken to task by Achebe, among others, for his allegedly Euro-centred and distorted picture of Africa.
