Abstract

At the beginning of the fourth century, the church if Africa experienced an internal conflict that led to a major split between its followers due to a theological dispute they called it "the call of Arius". During the period of persecution, the teachings were secret and the differences were hidden and not apparent. The Christians were busy preventing evil and avoiding affliction, for they hid their beliefs and did not speak of them, when Emperor Constantine I sympathised with them, each of them declared his Christianity and belief in Christ, peace be upon him, openly, they discovered that there was a disagreement between them that could not be ignored, because it destroyed the idea of the universal Church for all Christians. In this study, I shall try to discover what is meant by “the call of Arius” and the position of Roman authority on it.
