Abstract

The aim of the French colonialism in Algeria was to destroy the national identity and obliterate its features. “Mouloud Kacem Naît Belkacem” is one of the men who played a major role in the defense of the Algerian identity. When discussing the concept of identity, he stems from the idea of "egoism"; a concept he took from “Man flying” of Avicenna. According to M. N Belkacem the components of identity are Language and Religion, then comes History, in addition to Patriotism, and all these elements are overlapping and integrating in order to build the national identity.
