This article is based on a lexicometric analysis of 1,198 articles from four French-language Algerian newspapers, examining media coverage of the football-related conflict between Algeria and Egypt in November 2009. Using the IRaMuTeQ software, it explores the lexical networks employed by the Algerian press and questions its role in escalating the conflict. The study hypothesizes that the journalists’ lexical choices reflect a strong negative emotional charge, expressing self-victimization and discrediting the Egyptian other, thereby contributing to an ideologized and polarized reading of the event by the general public.frlexicométriepresseconflitémotionpolarisationlexicometrypressconflictemotionpolarizationQuand Le Football Attise Les Tensions : Une étude Lexicométrique Du Traitement Médiatique Algérien Du Conflit Algéro-égyptien De 2009 Dans La Presse Algérienne FrancophoneWhen Football fuels tensions : a lexicometric study of Algerian media coverage of the 2009 Algeria–Egypt Conflict in the french language Algerian pressArticle
