For 132 years in Algeria, French colonialism worked to implement repressive policies to eliminate popular resistance and revolutions in the service of colonial expansion and the consolidation of European settlement. To obtain the necessary lands and to suppress revolutions and eliminate resistance, the French administration relied on an arsenal of laws that were enacted for the legalized repression against the population and leaders Among these means were major confiscations since 1830, starting with the confiscation of public property, the property of endowment institutions, mosques, and zawiyas, and reaching the property of the Turkish authority and its employees during the period of Governor-General Marshal Clauzel. This was followed by a series of decrees stipulated in the law of war against the Algerians, the most important of which were the decree of December 1, 1840, the decree of October 31, 1845, and the decree of April 18, 1846, and the seizure and confiscation operations based on these decrees and the major confiscations against the revolutionaries of 1871 The result of these confiscations was that settlements obtained the necessary lands and the economic situation of the local population deteriorated. Thus, the confiscations became a means of deterrence against revolutionaries and resistance fighters, a financier of settlements, and a base for colonial expansion in the country.otherلمصادراتقانون الحربالمقاومات والثورات الشعبيةمرسوم 1ديسمبر 1840مرسوم 31 أكتوبر1845مرسوم 18 أفريل 1846عمليات الحجزالمصادرات الكبرى ضد ثوار 1871confiscationsthe law of warrevolutions and eliminate resistancethe decree of December 11840the decree of October 311845the decree of April 181846the seizureconfiscations against the revolutionaries of 1871نماذج من سياسة المصادرات وغرامات الحرب ضد الجزائريين المقاومين في القرن التاسع عشر.Article
