La sociolinguistique urbaine pose que l’espace est un produit socio-discursif. Dans ce sens, le pouvoir inhérent aux mots utilisés pour parler de certains espaces urbains, notamment les banlieues françaises, doit être pris en compte. Cet article présente une analyse terminologique visant à déconstruire quelques notions désignant les banlieues françaises et leurs habitants. Nous mettons en lumière un lien étroit entre les représentations entourant ces espaces urbains et une certaine conception sociétale. Urban sociolinguistic conceive space as a social-discursive product. In this sense, the symbolic power of the words used to talk about certain urban spaces, especially the French suburbs, must be considered. This article presents a terminological analysis aiming to deconstruct some notions designating the French suburbs and their inhabitants. A close link between the representations surrounding these urban spaces and a societal conception is brought up to date.
