Item The Effect of Cooperative Learning on EFL First Year Students’ Reading Comprehension(University of algiers2 Abu El Kacem Saad Allah جامعة الجزائر 2 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2021) AKHRIB, Mohammed; Nedjai, Fatma Zohra (Directeur de thèse)Gender is salient when Cooperative Learning (CL) is implemented in reading instruction, evoking further variability in students’ reading strategy use and achievement; this gender variance requires thorough investigation taking into account the reader, task and text variables so as to support previous studies examining the impact of CL on gender variance in English as Foreign Language (EFL) reading comprehension. The aim of this study, then, is to investigate gender differences in EFL reading comprehension. It explores how gender differences in the sources of text based interest, perceived interest or personal interest, and familiarity with texts, account for the variance in EFL reading comprehension. This study examines the impact of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on EFL reading comprehension of males and femalesItem Writing from the Margins(University of algiers2 Abu El Kacem Saad Allah جامعة الجزائر 2 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2021) Amirouche, Nassima; Bensemmane, M'hamed (Directeur de thèse)This thesis explores the rich tradition of minority women writers and the ways in which they have expressed their sense of identity through their autobiographical writings. Item SMS Texting Lexical Deviations and Gender in an EFL Academic Context(University of Algiers 2 Abou El Kacem Saadallah, 2021) Achili, Noura; Hamitouche, Fatiha (Directeur de thèse)The study explored SMS texters’ lexical deviations in an EFL academic context. A mixed-method that integrated both a corpus-based methodology and a questionnaire was implemented. The data analysis looked at texting deviated forms and their variation according to the EFL students’ gender and academic level. The results revealed the omission of capital letters as the most frequent type of deviation. The latter was followed by letter/number homophones, contractions, misspellings, and phonetic/non-conventional spellings. The results also highlighted the insignificant role of gender, with both genders texting almost similarly. Regarding the students’ academic level impact on the use of deviant forms, the data showed a noted relation between the use of deviations and the students’ language proficiency as Master students were revealed as the most prolific users of lexical deviations
