Abstract
This paper examines the role of discourse in EFL learning and teaching . More specifically it looks at how raising discourse awareness and competence can help learners and teachers in the development of reading and writing skills. The paper looks at two main point: the study of some grammatical features through a discourse approach and the application of discourse analysis to reading and writing
