Abstract
This present research aims to linguistically analyze one of the most famous comedies by the Neapolitan
playwright Eduardo De Filippo, namely "Napoli milionaria! 1945", showing how the Neapolitan dialect,
in which the play is written, encounters a foreign language (English) in one of the scenes of the second
act, set during the Allied landing in 1943. Indeed, through these scenes, the author captures the linguistic
richness of Naples during that period, highlighting how different languages and voices intertwine,
reflecting daily life in a multicultural city. This linguistic choice not only reveals the influence of
historical events but also De Filippo's intention to reflect the evolution of language and culture in Naples
at that time and their contact with the other.
