Abstract

Abstract: The break with Heritage with the condition of entering History, according to Abdallah Laroui. This study is concerned with one of the most important intellectual dilemmas that caused a lot of ink spilling starting with the intellectuals of the reform generation to the poles of modern Arabic thinking. That dilemma concerns the problem of the Arab Renaissance that has been suffering both from a cultural interpretation of history and a mechanical and superficial view of advancement and development. So instead of studying the civilizing mutations and the patterns, rules and laws that control them, these intellectuals are interested in how to revive ancient and fossilized cultures, and concentrate on the search of methods to revive and interpret it according to the new needs. This view of civilization has pushed Abdellah Laroui to consider the causes of backwardness of the Arab world to the Arab’s clinging to their heritage. He calls, at the same time, to rise and rebel against our silenced ancient past, and break with the interpretations that exist from the past. The present study aims at exposing the problematic of Adellah Laroui through a historiography reading of or heritage and a call for a break with it since, he thinks that the only way to develop and reach the level of civilization of the West, is to adopt modernity that has been built by the other so that not to live in the periphery of history.
