This study presents the educational potential of metaphorical definition in the school dictionary, as its educational dimension is embodied whenever the treatment of the linguistic balance circulating in the student environment is diversified, sensing the learner's requirements in communicative situations in which his/her need to know the methods of expression and the contexts of using the word is intense, for its ability to represent meanings and bring them closer to understanding, since the meanings of the word are only revealed through its use in different contexts. The study seeks to value the role of the school dictionary as one of the active educational means, through the technique of metaphorical/contextual definition that provides the learner with expressive potential that opposes the methods of great writers and creator
