Abstract

Relations of Banou Abdeloued (the Zayyanids-Tlemcen) to the Marinids (Morocco) between the 7th and the 10th centuries ah/ 13th and 16th centuries ad. After the fall of the al-Mowahidin State, Banou Abdeloued (the Zayyanides) settled in Tlemcen and the surrounding areas. They established a state which governed the Middle Maghreb for three centuries (7th - 10th centuries AH/ 13th - 16th centuries AD). Yaghmourassen founder of the state, having led several unsuccessful expeditions against the Merinides advised his son Abu Said Othman to make peace on the west (the Marinides). But, Merinides led a continuous war against the Zayyanides. They multiplied their expeditions against Tlemcen, besieged and took the city several times. To the fierce resistance of Zayyanides, the Merinides choose a less expensive policy which allows them to maintain the princes of Tlemcen under their tutelage. They sparked internal struggles at the slightest hint of independence. The intrigues of mérinides weakened the Zayyanides state who was powerless to push back the Spanish and later the Turks.
