Item Politeness and Gender in BBC world News(University of algiers2 Abu El Kacem Saad Allah جامعة الجزائر 2 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2020) Toumi, Abderrazek; Hamitouche, Fatiha (Directeur de thèse)This study aims to investigate the application of the politeness principle in Broadcast media interviews by male/female interviewers and interviewees. It explores the politeness strategies and sub-strategies (of Brown and Levinson, 1987) which are used by either sex, in order to determine which sex is more polite than the other. It analyses programmes in which the presenters conduct interviews with politicians or members of a political party about the main political issues of the day as well as other guests discussing non political topics or softer' items, including interviews on 'light-hearted' topics. The data gathered through the recording of TV broadcast interviews are analyzed by means of a set of frameworks based mostly on Brown Livingston, Holmes and Harris.Item The Effect of Cooperative Learning on EFL First Year Students’ Reading Comprehension(University of algiers2 Abu El Kacem Saad Allah جامعة الجزائر 2 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2021) AKHRIB, Mohammed; Nedjai, Fatma Zohra (Directeur de thèse)Gender is salient when Cooperative Learning (CL) is implemented in reading instruction, evoking further variability in students’ reading strategy use and achievement; this gender variance requires thorough investigation taking into account the reader, task and text variables so as to support previous studies examining the impact of CL on gender variance in English as Foreign Language (EFL) reading comprehension. The aim of this study, then, is to investigate gender differences in EFL reading comprehension. It explores how gender differences in the sources of text based interest, perceived interest or personal interest, and familiarity with texts, account for the variance in EFL reading comprehension. This study examines the impact of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on EFL reading comprehension of males and femalesItem Writing from the Margins(University of algiers2 Abu El Kacem Saad Allah جامعة الجزائر 2 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2021) Amirouche, Nassima; Bensemmane, M'hamed (Directeur de thèse)This thesis explores the rich tradition of minority women writers and the ways in which they have expressed their sense of identity through their autobiographical writings. The selected autobiographers belong to different ethnic groups, and the selected texts are: Harriet Jacobs' Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl(1861),and Zora Neale Hurston's Dust Tracks on a Road (1942) for African Americans, Zitkala Sa's American Indian Stories (1921) and Leslie Marmon Silko's Storyteller (1981) for Native Americans, and finally, Cleofas Jaramillo's Romance of a Little Village Girl (1955), and Norma Elia Cantu's Canicula: Snapshots of a Girlhood en la Frontera for Chicanas. I will use specific approaches specific to each writer and ethnic groupItem Das Kunstlerdasein als Genderproblematik in Christoph Heins Roman Frau Paula Trousseau(2007)(جامعة الجزائر 02 أبو القاسم سعد الله University of Algiers 2 Abou El Kacem Saadallah, 2022) Rersa, Souad; Aberkane, Ali (Directeur de thèse)Seit dem klassischen Feminismus hat sich eine Hierarchie zwischen m?nnlichen und weiblichen Eigenschaften etabliert, auf die sich die Geschlechterforschung oder -studien konzentrieren. Item GENDER DIFFERENCES EFFECTS ON THE EFL LEARNERS SPEAKING SKILLS(جامعة الجزائر 02 أبو القاسم سعد الله University of Algiers 2 Abou El Kacem Saadallah, 2019) KACHA, Asma; MAOUCHE-KETFI, Salima (Directeur de thèse)Gender is a socially and a culturally acquired category affecting the individual’s behaviours as well as his way of thinking. The gender differences are clearly experienced, especially in the classroom setting, since male and female learners co exist in the same setting and share the same learning tasks and instructions. This differentiation may affect the input provided by the teacher and the output produced by the learners. The present research, then, attempts to investigate the effect of these gender disparities on learning. More particularly, it aims at studying the effects of gender on group work tasks in speaking sessions wherein the exploratory talk is followed. In other words, it explores if the existing gender differences are aligned with the principles of the exploratory talk, and thus, points out which group arrangement is more appropriate to enhance the Algerian students’ group interactional performances and outcomes in general as well as the frequency and the quality of their contributions in particularItem SMS Texting Lexical Deviations and Gender in an EFL Academic Context(University of Algiers 2 Abou El Kacem Saadallah, 2021) Achili, Noura; Hamitouche, Fatiha (Directeur de thèse)The study explored SMS texters’ lexical deviations in an EFL academic context. A mixed-method that integrated both a corpus-based methodology and a questionnaire was implemented. The data analysis looked at texting deviated forms and their variation according to the EFL students’ gender and academic level. The results revealed the omission of capital letters as the most frequent type of deviation. The latter was followed by letter/number homophones, contractions, misspellings, and phonetic/non-conventional spellings. The results also highlighted the insignificant role of gender, with both genders texting almost similarly. Regarding the students’ academic level impact on the use of deviant forms, the data showed a noted relation between the use of deviations and the students’ language proficiency as Master students were revealed as the most prolific users of lexical deviations
