Item Translanguaging in the EFL Classroom: Students’ Practicesand Teachers’ Attitudes. To carry out the research,three data collection tools will be used: two questionnaires, an interview and classroom observation. The obtained data will then be analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. This research is hoped to contribute in the understanding of the notion of translanguaging and to modestly add to the existing body of knowledge in the field of multilingual education in Algeria.Item Politeness and Gender in BBC world News(University of algiers2 Abu El Kacem Saad Allah جامعة الجزائر 2 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2020) Toumi, Abderrazek; Hamitouche, Fatiha (Directeur de thèse)This study aims to investigate the application of the politeness principle in Broadcast media interviews by male/female interviewers and interviewees. It explores the politeness strategies and sub-strategies (of Brown and Levinson, 1987) which are used by either sex, in order to determine which sex is more polite than the other. It analyses programmes in which the presenters conduct interviews with politicians or members of a political party about the main political issues of the day as well as other guests discussing non political topics or softer' items, including interviews on 'light-hearted' topics. The data gathered through the recording of TV broadcast interviews are analyzed by means of a set of frameworks based mostly on Brown Livingston, Holmes and Harris.Item Portfolios as a means for raising students’ awareness of their oral skills’ improvement: The Case of 3rd year students in the department of English at the University of Algiers 2(University of Algiers 2 Abou El Kacem Saadallah, 2019) Abbassi, Mohamed Walid; Boukhedimi, YasmineThe purpose of this study is to investigate the oral portfolio as a means for raising Algerian EFL degree students’ awareness of their oral interaction and oral production. The study involved 12 EFL degree students from the English Department at the University of Algiers 2. Students were involved in two tasks (oral interaction and individual oral production). As Algerian EFL students needed more speaking practice in English, and also needed an unthreatening environment outside the classroom, participants in this study were required to provide three audio recordings of their oral performance in the oral interaction task and three audio recording performances in the individual oral production task. Participants’ reflections on their oral performance over the period of eight weeks may answer the research question on how the oral portfolio would raise students’ awareness of their oral skill. Audio recordings transcripts from the participants, questionnaires and interview were used to collect data.Item Lecturers' Approaches to Teaching and the Relationship to Conceptions of Teaching and Learning(University of Algiers 2 Abou El Kacem Saadallah, 2017-01) SARI-AHMED- BOUCHAMA, Anissa Fizya; KHALDI, KamelThe present study aims at investigating Algerian lecturers’ conceptions of teaching and learning, the approaches to teaching they adopt, and the correlation between the conceptions and approaches identified. The study was carried out with fourteen Algerian EFL lecturers in the department of English. These lecturers teach diverse courses: listening/speaking, reading/writing, grammar, cultural issues, schools of linguistics, study skills, applied statistics and research methods, research paper writing, methods of teaching, critical writing, literary genres, and Anglophone literature. This research uses a phenomenographic method of data collection and analysis including three instruments: interview, questionnaire, and classroom observation. A lecturers’ conceptions of teaching and learning interview along with a lecturers’ conceptions of teaching and learning questionnaire were constructed to explore lecturers’ conceptions of teaching and learning. A lecturers’ approaches to teaching interview was designed in addition to a classroom observation scheme in order to investigate lecturers’ approaches to teaching. A lecturers’ training experience questionnaire was also designed to explore the teacher training experience of the three lecturers who fell in the highest categories of conceptions and approachesItem Exploring First-Year and Third-Year LMD Algerian University Students’ Use of Language Learning Strategies(University of Algiers 2 Abou El Kacem Saadallah, 2017-01) Aoudjit-Bessai, NesrineThe present study aims at investigating the patterns of language learning strategy use employed by two groups of students enrolled in a three-year English degree course in the department of English of the University of Algiers 2, each one including 56 learners among first and third-year students. The study tries to identify the possible difficulties encountered by first-year students when studying linguistics and making use of their reading and writing skills in this course, and see whether low or absence of language learning strategy (LLS) use can influence their learning and achievement. The study also seeks to explore the extent of teachers’ awareness of the existence of LLS and their integration into their daily instruction.
