Abstract

تعد القديسة مونيكا واحدة من أبرز الشخصيان النسائية في التاريخ المسيحي لشمال افريقيا، وقد خلد سيرتها ابنها القديس أوغسطين في كتابه الاعترافات. يتناول المقال دراسة لأهم المحطات في حياة مونيكا بدءا من ولادتها في كنف أسرة مسيحية غرست فيها تعاليم المسيحية الفاضلة، ثم زواجها الذي واجهت فيه تحديات كبيرة لا سيما في علاقتها مع زوجها وحماتها وحتى مع خدم البيت، لكن التحدي الأصعب كان في علاقتها بأولادها لا سيما مع ابنها أوغسطين، الذي انفلت في شبابه أخلاقيا وفكريا ابتعد فيه عن تعاليم المسيحية وارتبط بتعاليم المانوية. لقد أظهر أوغسطين في الاعترافات مدى صلابة وعمق إيمان والدته التي تحملت الكثير من أجل خلاصه، لقد صلّت من أجله بلا انقطاع، ودعت وبكت كثيرا، بل ورافقته في رحلته الروحية إلى ميلانو حتى نال المعمودية وأصبح أحد أعظم رجال الكنيسة. إن الهدف من دراسة سيرة القديسة مونيكا هو ابراز دور الأم في صناعة التغيير داخل الأسرة. الكلمات المفتاحية: القديسة مونيكا؛ أوغسطين؛ الاعترافات؛ المرأة المسيحية، شمال افريقيا

Saint Monica is one of the most prominent female figures in the history of North African Christianity, immortalized by her son, Saint Augustine, in his *Confessions*. This article explores the key moments in Monica’s life, beginning with her birth into a devout Christian family where she was raised with virtuous teachings. Her marriage brought significant challenges, especially in her relationships with her husband, mother-in-law, and household servants. However, the greatest struggle was with her children, particularly Augustine, who in his youth strayed morally and intellectually from Christian teachings and was influenced by Manichaeism. Augustine’s *Confessions* reveal the strength and depth of his mother’s faith, as she endured much for his salvation—praying without ceasing, weeping, and even accompanying him to Milan where he was baptized and later became one of the greatest Church fathers.
