Investigating Supervisees’ Perceptions and Practices in the Supervision Process: The case of Master 2 Students in the English Department, University of Algiers 2

Abstract

تهدف هذه الأطروحة لاستكشاف تصوّرات وممارسات الطلبة المؤطرين في ماستر التعليمية بقسم اللغة الإنجليزية بجامعة الجزائر 2. كما تدرس العلاقة بين التصوّرات المكونة وممارساتهم أثناء هذه العملية. ولتحقيق هذه الأهداف، تم استخدام استبيانات، مقابلات و تحليل وثائق التأطير. وقد تم تطوير إطار مُعدّل مكوّن من ثماني مراحل لعملية التأطير على مستوى الماستر. أظهرت نتائج البحث أن الطلبة كوّنوا تصوّرات إيجابية وسلبية ومختلطة حول مختلف مراحل عملية التأطير. ويعتمد نوع هذه التصوّرات على نوع العلاقة بين المؤطِّر و المؤَطَّر. ولكن تبيّن أن جودة الدعم والتغذية الراجعة التي يقدّمها المؤطرون تفوق في أهميتها نوع العلاقة التأطيرية. كما كشفت النتائج أن الطلبة الذين كوّنوا تصوّرات إيجابية استخدموا مهارات متعددة في جميع المراحل، مما جعل ممارساتهم فعالة ومتكاملة على عكس الطلبة الذين كوّنوا تصوّرات سلبية أو مختلطة فقد استخدموا مهارات أقل، مما جعل ممارساتهم أقل تكاملًا وفعالية. وتوضح هذه النتائج علاقة ارتباط بين تصوّرات الطلبة المؤطرين وممارساتهم، حيث إن التصوّرات التي كوّنوها كانت بمثابة مرشد لممارساتهم. This doctoral research explores the perceptions and practices of Master supervisees in the English Department at Algiers 2 University and examines the relationship between the perceptions and their practices. To attain these objectives, questionnaires, interviews and document analysis were used. An adapted eight-step framework for supervision at the Master’ level was developed. The findings showed that the supervisees formed positive, negative and mixed perceptions regarding the supervision process. The type of perceptions depends on the type of the supervisory relationship. However, the quality of the supervisors’ assistance and feedback exceeds the importance of the type of this relationship. The results also revealed that the supervisees who developed positive perceptions used multiple skills during all the stages making their practices effective and integrated whereas those who developed negative or mixed perceptions used fewer skills making their practices less integrated and less effective. This indicates a strong correlation between the supervisees’ perceptions and practices as the perceptions informed their practices
