Evolución de la cuestión catalana durante la transición democrática en la prensa española (1975-1979)

Abstract

A partir de la muerte de Franco en 1975 y la apertura política en España, la escena política catalana conoció un cambio crucial. A pesar de sus tendencias heterogéneas, los partidos políticos catalanes conformaron un movimiento autonomista unitario que reivindicaba la amnistía y la autonomía de Cataluña. La prensa española no quedó al margen de dichos cambios, incluso los relacionados con la evolución de la cuestión catalana a partir de la muerte de Franco. Este estudio aborda la postura editorial de los tres diarios ABC, El País y La Vanguardia hacia los acontecimientos que marcaron la trayectoria del movimiento autonomista catalán desde la muerte de Franco en 1975 hasta la aprobación del Estatuto de Autonomía de Cataluña en 1979. Así, el enfoque principal de este estudio será la percepción de la prensa sobre dichos acontecimientos. Para ello, el análisis se centra en la línea editorial de los tres diarios objeto de estudio, para responder a la siguiente pregunta de investigación: -¿Qué posición adoptaron los tres periódicos ABC, El País y La Vanguardia ante la evolución de la cuestión catalana durante la Transición? El análisis realizado a lo largo de este estudio permite deducir que la prensa no quedó al margen de los cambios producidos en la escena política catalana, sino que había contribuido al debate en torno a varios hechos relevantes que marcaron la evolución de la cuestión catalana entre 1975, después de la muerte de Franco y 1979. Por otra parte, se puede afirmar que ABC no mantuvo una posición fija hacia la cuestión catalana a lo largo del periodo estudiado. En general, su postura había evolucionado progresivamente desde la marginalización de esta temática a principios de la Transición, hasta el rechazo frontal de los planes autonomistas catalanes a finales de la misma. La línea editorial de El País se caracterizó por la imparcialidad hacia la cuestión catalana. The analysis carried out throughout this study allows us to deduce that the press was not left out of the changes produced in the Catalan political scene, but had contributed to the debate around several relevant events that marked the evolution of the Catalan question between 1975, after Franco's death and 1979. On the other hand, it can be said that ABC did not maintain a fixed position towards the Catalan question throughout the period studied. In general, his position had progressively evolved from the marginalization of this issue at the beginning of the Transition, to the frontal rejection of the Catalan autonomist plans at the end of it.
