Abstract
The research aimed to identify the impact of bilingualism on the child’s learning of foreign languages, especially French, in light of high family ambition, in addition to identifying the family factors that contribute to enhancing the transfer and learning of a foreign language and the strategies accompanying it. For this reason, the aim of the study was to identify the various family linguistic practices through which the child’s language is built.
The descriptive research employed the quantitative qualitative approach, which was necessitated by the necessity of the basic questionnaire tool to collect data from a sample of guardians of students at Al-Ikhwa Al-Omrani Secondary School, represented by 173 guardians (845 the total number of students), i.e. 20.47%, in a Random manner after selecting the institution intentionally due to the good results in foreign languages and the secondary school taking first place in the baccalaureate exam for many years. The research also relied on the interview as a complementary tool for collecting data, which supports qualitative analysis, because foreign language teachers for the same students as the guardians are the second source for learning the language. Based on all of this, the study relied on one main hypotheses: there is an impact of bilingualism on the child’s language learning process, and there is a correlation between family ambition and the child’s learning of a foreign language. From these two hypotheses, four partial hypotheses were derived. The subsequent sociological study concluded that the child, in his journey of learning languages, especially French, is affected by bilingualism, especially the interview. For parents in their practices and it has a close relationship and connection with family ambitions, the outputs of which are making fateful decisions that are manifested in family linguistic strategies, some of which are general and represent interaction in all its forms, and others specific related to the environment and communication.
