شهدت المؤسسة كمفهوم تعدد في المعاني و المعرفة المشكلة حولها و هذا نظرا لتعدد نماذج التنظيم و التي كانت تسعى لعقلنة منطق العمل و المساهمة في خلق النجاعة التنظيمية ، و عليه يبقى مفهوم المؤسسة مصطلح حديث النشأة و جاء حسب الظرف الذي عايشت فيه المؤسسة الظروف المحيطة به ، فلا يمكن تعريف المؤسسة بدون تاريخ المؤرخ عليها ، من جهة أخرى تسعى التنظيرات النظرية الميدانية المعاصرة إلى دراسة المؤسسة الكل حسب البيئة المحيطة بها و المجتمع المتولدة فيه ، فعند البعض تمثل شكل من أشكال السلطة و قواعد اللعب الفاعلين في المؤسسة و من جهة أخرى هي إنعكاس للخصوصيات الثقافية للمجتمع ، إذن المؤسسة كمفهوم يعرف نوع من التعقد التكويني المفهوماتي في حد ذاته .
