Exploring the Importance of the Target Cultural Background Knowledge in Reading EFL Literary Texts A Case Study of the Algerian LMD Undergraduate Students at the University of Algiers 2

Abstract

Dealing with foreign literature at University involves taking into account the philosophy of literature reading and the freedom to question the world we live in. We investigate here students‟reading habit sin particular which influence their ability to interpret EFL literature. On one hand, if we overlook cross- cultural issues the reader may feel disregarded. On the other, allowing interpretations that may be unfaithful to the author are too great not to make investigating the role played by EFL students‟ reading practices in their target cultural background knowledge acquisition a fundamental enterprise. This article presents an exploratory case study with a mixed research design using both the questionnaire and the interview. If literature allow sawak ening conscien cesan demotional responses,both the teachers and the students inquired are aware of an underlying uneasiness related to their lack of reading practice. We suggest these cause damages in literature class if they remain unchecked. تناولنا في دراستنا مسألة تعليم الترجمة بالجامعة الجزائرية والتغير الجذري في برامجها التعليمية بعد اعتمادها نظام (لـ،م،د). وفي هذا الصدد سلطنا الضوء في دراستنا المقارنة الوصفية التحليلية النقدية لبرنامج تعليم الترجمة بين النظامين، الكلاسيكي و(لـ،م،د)، على أحد المحاور التعليمية الأساسية، وهي: برامج تعليم الترجمة، وقضية مراجعتها وتعديلها، ونوعية التقييم والتقويم البيداغوجيين للطالب، وصعوبة تحقيق كفاءات في الترجمة إلخ... وتحديد مكامن القوة والضعف في البرنامجين، وكيفية الاستفادة المثلى من نتائج التجربتين، وسبل تكييف هذه البرامج لمواكبة التطورات العلمية في شتى الميادين من جهة، واستجابة للمعايير العالمية، من جهة أخرى.وقد أفضت الدراسة أنه لضمان فعالية برامج ومناهج تخصص الترجمة في نظام (لـ،م،د) في ينبغي الالتزام بتطبيقه وفق المبادئ الأساسية التي جاء بها، فضلا عن تحديد وتنظيم الأهداف التعليمية مسبقا لضمان التوصل إلى تحقيق تكوين نوعي بالتركيز على مخرجاته، وتحصيل كفاءات في الترجمة، تلبي سوق الشغل.
