Item The Algerine In The Early American Literature(Faculté des Langues Etrangères. Université d'Alger 2 Abu Al-Qasim Saadallah, 2019-09-30) Houamdi, DjamilaQuite overlooked, if not unheard of, is the early American fiction which deals with the first encounter between the newly-born United States and the Regency of Algiers (1785). Though captivity narratives have been, in general, extensively studied, Barbary accounts do not seem to receive the necessary attention. Hence, the overarching concern of the present paper is to examine the representation of the Algerine in two notable American early works of fiction namely: Peter Markoe’s The Algerine Spy in Pennsylvania (1787) and Royall Tyler’s The Algerine Captive (1797). The tension between the two nations was heightened by the capture of two American ships by Algerian privateers which led to a considerable amount of captivity narratives and travel accounts. Such literature can be seen as an inward-gazing medium for it comments on the American status quo as much as it meditates on the Other. Accordingly, this study attempts to highlight the contribution of these early American fictional texts in the construction of a discourse which serves at once for the self-conceptualization of ‘the American’ and the “othering” of an ‘Oriental’ culture.Item سياسة المسخ الاستعمارية في اهتمامات النخبة الإصلاحية الجزائرية خلال النصف الأول من القرن 20م(الصحافة أنموذجا)(مجلة المفكر-جامعة الجزائر2-أبو القاسم سعد الله-, 2023-06-17) تاونزة, محفوظيهدف هذا المقال إلى إبراز دور صحافة النخبة الإصلاحية الجزائرية في المقاومة الوطنية للمسخ الإستعماري خلال النصف الأول من القرن 20م ،حيث قامت هذه الصحافة بكل جرأة بفضح جميع سياسات المحتل من إدماج و فرنسة و تجنيس الرامية إلى طمس الهوية الحضارية العربية و الإسلامية للشعب الجزائري ، كما شنت حملات إعلامية شعواء ضد مخططات المنصرين المستهدفة لعقيدة الجزائريين الإسلامية،و أظهرت دفاعا مستميتا عن أصالة شخصية الشعب الجزائري و هويته الوطنية ، من خلال نشرها مقالات و كتابات متعددة تتعلق أساسا بـ:مناصرة ـالدين الإسلامي و التعلق باللغة العربية والإشادة بالتاريخ الوطني للتدليل على أهمية هذه المقومات الأساسية بالنسبة للشخصية الوطنية،و تميزها عن شخصية المحتل الفرنسي،لتساهم بذلك هذه الصحافة في تأجيج الوعي الوطني و الثوري لدى الشعب الجزائري، خاصة عشية إندلاع ثورة أول نوفمبر المباركة 1954 This article aims to highlight the role of the Algerian reformist elite press in the national resistance to colonial deformity during the first half of the 20th century AD. Shawaa against the plans of the missionaries targeting the Islamic faith of the Algerians, and showed a desperate defense of the authenticity of the Algerian people’s personality and national identity, by publishing multiple articles and writings mainly related to: advocacy of the Islamic religion and attachment to the Arabic language and praising the national history to demonstrate the importance of these basic elements for The national character, and its distinction from the character of the French occupier, so that this press contributes to fueling the national and revolutionary consciousness of the Algerian people, especially on the eve of the outbreak of the blessed revolution of November 1954.
