Abstract

Roberto Brunchvig’s book titled Africa in the Hafsid Period deals with the issue of prisoners in the Western Mediterranean during the Middle Ages. This study will look at the way they lived and the way they were treated as well as the importance of this phenomenon in the context of political and economic relations between the Hafsid dynasty and its neighbours. The approach is historical-analytical, focusing on the treaties and diplomatic missions mentioned by Brunchvig.
