Item A Person Approach To Impersonal Passive In Null Subject Languages And Elsewhere(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - مخبر اللسانيات وعلم الإجتماع اللغوي وتعليمية اللغات - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها- جامعة الجزائر02- أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2020-06-15) Shormani, MohammedIn this article, I propose a novel approach to impersonal passive in null subject languages (NSLs), and elsewhere, based mainly on Pers(on) feature and implicit arguments, e.g. pro. It is proposed that pro is the external argument of impersonal passive. pro is specified as a 3 generic/indefinite human agent, and is associated with the PM. The PM is projected as a PassP (= Passive Phrase) headed by Pass. PassP is assumed to be a phase, whose head, i.e. Pass, is ɸ-complete. Pass is assumed to have two probes, namely Agree Feature and Edge Feature (EF). EF is motivated by the unvalued [uGenr] feature, as a sub-feature of Person, and by LF interpretation reasons. This [uGenr] is also assumed to be a dissociated feature from ɸ-composition. Pass agrees with pro in impersonal passive. Like active, pro in our proposal merges in Spec-vP. In Spec-vP, pro values its -role of agent by v at Merge. An Agree is established between pro and Pass, the result of which is valuing Pass’s unvalued features and the unvalued Nom Case of pro. Pass’s EF triggers pro to remerge in its Spec, hence valuing Pass’s [uGenr] feature.Item A Reshuffle Of The Roles Of Instructors And Learners In Online Education(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - مخبر اللسانيات وعلم الإجتماع اللغوي وتعليمية اللغات - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها- جامعة الجزائر02- أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2024-06-28) Sellami, YosraHow learning in general and second/foreign language learning occurs as a life and formal classroom pursuit has always been a contentious issue among psychologists, language teachers, and the learners themselves who display varying levels of motivation to learn and different outcomes presumably matching the effort invested. Attempts to understand the mechanisms of learning generally fall under two umbrellas: those concerned with theory such Skinner (1950), Chomsky (1965), Vygotsky (1978) and others, who have developed theoretical systems accounting for learning as controlled by stimulus-response, mental processes, and socially mediated interactions, respectively. On the practical side, much recent work was undertaken in relation to motivation as an overriding factor in second/foreign language learning (Gardner, 1990, 2001; Brooks 1999; Chance, 2014, Dörnyei, 1990, Dörnyei & Ushioda, 2011, etc.). These works consider motivation from internal and external standpoints and draw attention to personal, cognitive, and social factors as theoretical learning models.Item Actes De Langage Et Discours Politique(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - مخبر اللسانيات وعلم الإجتماع اللغوي وتعليمية اللغات - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها- جامعة الجزائر02- أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2019-06-25) Berghout, NoudjoudCet article se veut une analyse du discours politique de deux présidents français, à savoir Chirak et Sarkozy lors de leurs visites en Algérie. This article is an analysis of the political discourse of two French presidents, namely Chirak and Sarkozy during their visits to Algeria. The approach taken is the pragmatic approach since it is about the study of indirect speech acts. We will therefore observe the different discursive and enunciative strategies put in place to convey very delicate questions relating to the Algerian warItem Addressing Socioeconomic Disparities In Children's Language Development: Insights, Challenges, And Interventions(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها - جامعة الجزائر 02 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2024-12-22) Makhlouf, AbdelkaderThis study addresses the pervasive issue of socioeconomic disparities in children's language development, drawing from a wide array of literature. The problem statement highlights the consistent findings indicating a substantial lag in language skills among children from low socioeconomic backgrounds compared to their affluent peers by age three. The main aim of this research is to underscore the necessity of tailored interventions aimed at bridging this gap and fostering language growth among economically disadvantaged children. The significance of the study lies in its emphasis on the crucial role of early parent-child communication quality, the impact of poverty on cognitive development and academic performance, the influence of caregiver input quality, and the differences in access to educational resources based on socioeconomic status. Methodologically, this research incorporates a comprehensive review of relevant literature, synthesizing insights from various studies conducted by researchers such as Hirsh-Pasek (2015), Miller (1995), Leroy (2017), Zimmerman (2017), and Suskind (2015). Findings underscore the importance of parental involvement and targeted interventions in improving language environments and outcomes for children from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Implications of this research include the urgent need for policy interventions and support systems aimed at addressing the enduring consequences of poverty on children's learning and cognitive growth, as well as the promotion of equitable access to educational resources and high-quality caregiver interactions.Item Advancing English Medium Instruction In Algerian Higher Education : The Effect Of Adaptive Pedagogical Strategies On Teacher Academic Performance And Student Engagement(Revue algérienne des sciences du langage (RADSL), 2025-12-27) Rogti Maroua; Alhasani Dubali MirelaSome teachers may face difficulties in engaging with EMI courses including the shift from using their native language to run disciplinary courses in English. These issues prompt many scholars to adapt strategies for training and assisting EMI teachers’ performance in EMI courses. The current literature on the training and support of teachers in executing EMI pedagogy has received inadequate attention. The deficiency of research on preparing educators for EMI pedagogy has resulted in a notable gap in the literature. This study aims at examining teachers and students’ common challenges in pursuing EMI courses and their impact on their academic performance and engagement. The study employed a quantitative design with a sample of 14 EMI teachers and 60 undergraduate students enrolled in engineering courses. The design involved conducting pre- and post-test experiment and a self-report questionnaire after engaging in the courses. The participants were divided into a CG =30 and an EG=30 receiving the treatment. Findings indicated that EG students and teachers increased their engagement and academic performance prior to implementing adaptive strategies in EMI courses. Indeed, challenges associated with the EMI courses such as inadequate teaching materials and insufficient classroom interactions decreased only after employing adaptive solutions, including alternative textbooks, self-reflection skills, technological devices, and the first language. Therefore, implementing EMI programs is challenging, necessitating teacher development, institutional support, and effective student self-directed and peer learning strategies. In addition, the adaptive strategies utilized by students and teachers provide insights into how other EMI courses could enhance their adaptation.Item Advancing English Medium Instruction in Algerian Higher Education: The Effect of Adaptive Pedagogical Strategies on Teacher Academic Performance and Student Engagement(Revue algérienne des sciences du langage (RADSL), 2025-12-27) Maroua RogtiSome teachers may face difficulties in engaging with English Medium Instruction (EMI) courses including the shift from using their native language to run disciplinary courses in English. The research aims to provide a methodologically robust and theoretically grounded examination of language variation as a function of genre. Using a quantitative methodology encompassing descriptive statistics, comparative analysis (ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and Chi-squared test), and collocation analysis, we investigate variations in word and sentence length, lexical diversity, part-of-speech (POS) tag distribution, and significant bigram collocations. Our findings reveal statistically significant differences in linguistic characteristics across genres, with effect sizes reported to quantify the magnitude of these differences. The results highlight the profound influence of communicative context on linguistic choices and underscore the utility of corpus-based approaches in understanding language variation. This study contributes to corpus linguistics by providing detailed quantitative insights into the MASC corpus, demonstrating its value for linguistic research, and offering a rigorous framework for future empirical studies of language use. The discussion is expanded to explore the implications of these findings for linguistic theory, natural language processing applications, and language pedagogy. The results underscore the importance of genre-specific analysis in linguistic investigations and provide a solid foundation for further research into the socio-linguistic and cognitive factors influencing language production. This research proposes a semiotic analysis of the traditional Babar carpet (Khenchela), an Amazigh heritage object bearing a complex symbolic system. We also tried to make our modest contribution for their improvement on the terminological level. It’s also consisted in presenting a draft of the various sociolinguistics representations répertoriables in the towns of Cotonou, Porto-Novo and Parakou. We became convinced that, for the speakers of these cities in general, the French language occupied a choice place whereas the national languages are satisfied with a subordinate place. This dichotomy is also perceptible as regards linguistic statute. Indeed, the statute of official language is allotted to French, while that “non official” language returns to the national languages. e Parakou dans un pays plurilingue comme le Bénin.Item Argumentation Et Polyphonie Dans Le Discours De Presse. Our study is part of the framework of the theory of language polyphony. Our corpus is composed of a set of articles from « Le Quotidien d’Oran ». We attach to analyze some brands of polyphony allowing the journalist to introduce the explicit or implied one or several voice in his speech, while conveying the points of view and expressing attitudes toward its statement and the voices that he puts in scene. We are inspired by the work of Oswald Ducrot and Jean Claude Anscombre which are essentially within the linguistics of enunciation of the theory of argumentation in language and linguistic polyphony theory.Item Assessing Attitudes Of Artificial Intelligence Tools In Academic Research: A Cross-sectional Survey Among Efl Doctorate Students(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - مخبر اللسانيات وعلم الإجتماع اللغوي وتعليمية اللغات - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها- جامعة الجزائر02- أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2024-12-22) Belkhir, Fatima-zohraThere is no doubt that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized various domains including education and research. Yet, attitudes towards the use of AI are controversial. This study aims to investigate the perception of artificial intelligence tools in research among EFL (English as a Foreign Language) doctorate students of the department of English, University of Tlemcen in order to provide valuable information for understanding and addressing the extra challenges students face in doing research nowadays. In so doing, a cross-sectional study was conducted with 15 doctorate students using Google forms questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of three sections to examine (a) the respondents‟ barriers to research, (b) their positive perception towards research and (c) their negative perception towards research all in the light of the current hands-on of AI tools. The results indicated that almost all informants heard and read about AI while only 20.25% stated that they have good or excellent knowledge about it. Speaking about their general perception, approximately half of the respondents 54% rated the use of AI tools in research as positive and the other half (46%) as negative. It is worth noting as a conclusion that although showing only a mediocre perception and knowledge about artificial intelligence, the majority of students rated AI in research as positive. Following this finding, the study calls for an urgent need to implement institutional rules and measures that would strengthen the development and the growth of scientific production in the university context among novice researchers, doctorate students included.Item Avant-propos(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - مخبر اللسانيات وعلم الإجتماع اللغوي وتعليمية اللغات - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها- جامعة الجزائر02- أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2018-08-25) Guehria, WajihAvant-propos De nombreuses études en sciences humaines et sociales ont été consacrées aux espaces ségrégués français, qu’on appelle « banlieues », « quartiers » ou encore « cités », notamment aux particularités linguistiques et culturelles qui leur sont propres ou qu’on leur attribue, à travers en particulier les nombreux textes de rap français à succès ou la littérature dite « de banlieue ». Wajih GUEHRIA Paris, le 15/08/2018Item Beyond Language: Eap As The Gateway To Academic Excellence(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان- مخبر اللسانيات وعلم الاجتماع وتعليمية اللغات- كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها - جامعة الجزائر 02 أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2024-12-22) Amirouche, Nassima; Bounaas, ChaoukiEnglish for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses are essential for preparing individuals for success in English-medium higher education. This article presents a concise framework for understanding and implementing effective EAP instruction. It emphasizes the goal-directed nature of EAP, rooted in needs analysis to tailor instruction to learners' academic and professional objectives. The framework delineates critical components such as target needs analysis, assessment of learners' present performance, diverse teaching approaches grounded in authentic tasks, and integration into academic programs. Implementation considerations, including pre-sessional and in-sessional course structures, are discussed alongside the ongoing evaluation to ensure efficacy. By addressing learners' communicative needs within academic contexts while leveraging modern pedagogical approaches, EAP serves as a cornerstone for fostering academic success. This framework provides valuable insights for EAP practitioners, guiding curriculum design, instructional strategies, and assessment practices to enhance learners' proficiency and success in English-medium higher education.Item Boxe, Esthétique Et Politique Dans Les Romans De Banlieue(المجلة الجزائرية لعلوم اللسان - مخبر اللسانيات وعلم الإجتماع اللغوي وتعليمية اللغات - كلية اللغة العربية وأدابها- جامعة الجزائر02- أبو القاسم سعد الله, 2018-08-25) Horvath, ChristinaSelon un cliché répandu, le sport constituerait un débouché pour les jeunes résidents masculins d’origine postcoloniale des banlieues populaires en rupture avec l’école. According to a widespread cliché, sport is one of rare openings for young male banlieue residents of postcolonial origin who failed their education. The sociologists Stéphane Beau and Gérard Mauger (2017, p. 11) argue that ‘anti-school culture’ and ‘macho-proletarian attitudes’ contribute to marginalise post-working-class youths on a job market affected by the growing proportion of children in full-time education and the unequal access to quality education. While some banlieue narratives tend to focus on soccer playing characters playing, an increasing number of novelists use boxing not only as a metaphor for the collective experience of peripheral working-class youths trying to control their violence after the 2005 banlieue riots but also a symbol for the writers’ individual performance translating this experience into literary works, or even an aesthetic principle inherent to their creative activity. This paper proposes to examine four novels published between 2006 and 2013 by Mohamed Razane, Rachid Djaïdani,Item Bridging The Linguistic Gap: Addressing Reading Comprehension Challenges For The Algerian Dentists(Revue algérienne des sciences du langage (RADSL), 2025-12-27) Moussedek SaraThis study examines the reading comprehension challenges of French-educated Algerian dentists when reading English-language medical texts. With a quantitative survey sent to twenty-five (n=25) practicing dentists, the study identifies marked linguistic challenges, including challenges with medical terminology (particularly abbreviations), intricate sentence structures, and unfamiliar rhetorical conventions in English texts. It is revealed that although the participants employ coping mechanisms such as computer translation programs and peer suggestions, these strategies often lead to partial understanding or misinterpretation due to the complexity of medical texts. Systematic reading approaches, bilingual glossary development, and group learning techniques are suggested as targeted interventions to enhance professionals' ability to access and comprehend English medical literature. The results point to the need for programmatic English for Medical Purposes (EMP) education in francophone medical faculties, dental sciences in particular, to bridge this language divide and enhance evidence-based practice. The present study contributes to ongoing debates regarding multilingual medical literacy and offers practical recommendations for greater professional access to cross-cultural research. Long-term effectiveness of such measures in clinical contexts should be examined through future studies.
