A Blended Approach For Teaching Efl Writing At University Level

This paper attempts to suggest ways of improving EFL writing instruction at tertiary level by exploring the interrelationship between writing, metacognition and blended learning. In accordance with the research findings of a former doctoral study (Arar, 2015), this article describes some applications of a suggested writing instructional model that combines principles from three approaches: Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach, Computer Assisted Writing, and Writing Across the Curriculum. The aim of the proposed writing framework is to develop students’ metacognitive awareness during the writing process, as well as meet learners’ writing and learning needs via a more authentic and contextual writing instruction that promotes language, writing, technology use, and autonomy. The overall objective of this paper is to illustrate classroom applications of this instructional model that strives for improving students’ achievement in writing and in EFL learning.
A Critical Review Of The Role Of Language Assessment Training In Developing Teachers’ Language Assessment Literacy

This study examines two research papers published in academic journals and available on the web. Although both articles hold a common objective, namely the evaluation of language assessment programs, a different methodology is followed. The aim of this study is to critically analyze and compare these two papers in terms of research background, research design and procedure, analysis and presentation of results, discussion of findings, conclusion and implications. Evaluating Teachers’ Assessment training is of significance because it allows the stakeholders to figure out whether the future teachers are well prepared to conduct assessment efficiently in the classroom. The present study will help to identify valid and ethical papers that can serve the research field. . The results of this analysis show that Hatipoglo‘s research is valid and reliable, but it is poorly designed and structured whereas Lam’s research is reliable, valid, and well designed.
A Discourse Analysis Of James Joyce’s Construction Of Identity In Dubliners And A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man

The present paper attempts to acknowledge and dig out the largely unexplored late Victorian and Edwardian ethos of subjectivity in James Joyce’s Dubliners (1914) and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916) and to show that Joyce himself, like much of his characters was bound by the ideologies of his age namely nationalism, Catholicism as well as gender conditions. In other words, this short analysis aims to show that Joyce’s collection of short stories and his novel not only give the surfaces of daily life in turn of the century Dublin, but they also expose the discursive and cultural contexts, ideologies, religiosity and gender forces that colonized Irish modern subjectivity.

كان القرآن، و لا يزال، محط أنظار العالم، من مسلمين و غیر مسلمين، من غير العارفين بالعربية بغية فهمه و الاطلاع على مكنوناته. و قد سعى هذا الفريق و ذاك سعيا حثيثا إلى تحقيق هدفه، و كان ذلك عن طريق الترجمة. فقد خضع القرآن إلى عملية الترجمة و نال حظه منها، كما لم ينله كتاب قبله، ما يقارب 1500 عمل ترجمة كاملة و ترجمات جزئية و مختارات، حتى بلغ عدد ترجماته، من 105 لغات. و كان للقرآن الحظ الوافر في الترجمة باللغة الانكليزية منذ بدايات ترجمي في حوالي القرن السادس عشر ميلادي إلى يومنا هذا. و بما أن الحيز الممنوح لنا بين طيات هذه المجلة لا يسمح لنا ببسط هذا الموضوع بإسهاب، فإننا سنحاول، في مقالنا هذا، أن نلقي نظرة خاطفة على بعض ترجمات القرآن بهذه اللغة، و بخاصة منها تلك الترجمات التي تميزت بسيمة ما أو تركت أثرا ما، أو كان لصاحبها تميز ما أو سبق في مجال ما في عملية ترجمة القرآن. / : لم The Qur'an was, and still is, the focus of interest in the world. Muslims and no Muslims alike, amongst those who don't know Arabic, seek to understand its message and access to its contents. Both parties managed no effort to achieve this goal through translation. Actually, the Quran has had its share of translation. To date, according to Istanbul Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture, and to The Centre for Translation of the Holy Qur'an, in Iran, the Qur'an has been translated into about 105 languages and the number of its translations - including complete translations, partial translations and selections - is tantamount to 1500 works. In this paper, which is a survey of English translations of the Holy Qur'an from the very beginning of this effort i.e. around 1515 to the present day, we will attempt to shed light only on key translations, chiefly those with special characteristics, special influence or which gained a reputation as good translations, and the authors of which had distinctive traits or scored a great success in the translation of this sacred book. It is, in fact, an ambitious and long-drawn-out study which neither the space allowed in this periodical nor time can permit

تؤدي علامات الخطاب في اللغة الإنجلیزیة المنطوقة وظیفة هامة في المحادثة . لقد كانت موضوع البحث في مجموعة من الدراسا ت التي تركز على الناطقین باللغة الإنجلیزیة الأصليين منهم والأجانب، كما أنها حظیت بالعدید من التسمیات ومختلف التعاریف من قبل الكثیر من الباحثین. لذلك، سوف یختص هذاالبحث في النظر في بعض جوانب قواعد المحادثة والمتمثلة في علامات الخطاب و سيتطرق على وجه الخصوص الى مختلف المفاهيم المتصلة بها وخصائصها، بالاضافة الى الوظائف المسندة لها. Abstract Discourse markers of spoken English such as you know, I mean, well, see, so, and, but and many others perform animportant role in conversation. They have been the subject of investigation in a host of studies focusing on native and non- native speakers of English and have been assigned a multitude of terminologies and diverse definitions by various researchers. Therefore, this article will highlight the definitions allotted to discourse makers , their properties as well as their functions.

As a man who spent part of his life serving Britain in West Africa, and who claimed knowledge of terrain and people, Joyce Cary has none the less been taken to task by Achebe, among others, for his allegedly Euro-centred and distorted picture of Africa.

تطمح هذه المداخلة إلى أن تكون مقاربة شاملة لإشكالية النص الصحفي والتي لا يمكن فصلها عن إشكالية الجدل الخطابي الذي يفرض دینامية دائرية من التوافق والتواجه. يدور الجدل داخل الفضاء الخطابي المتعلق باستقلال الجزائر والذي يتخذ فيه المتلفظون مواقف مختلفة بالنظر إلى تطلعاتهم الإيديولوجية. وحتي نمثل هذه الفكرة، من الضروري أن تأخذ المناظرات التي جمعت کامو مع معاصريه بعين الاعتبار. ويمكننا أن نموضع محاولته في شبكة المواقف الجدلية بسبب اختلاف وجهات النظر بخصوص هذا الموضوع. هل يمكن أن نكون مع الانتفاضة كامو اتجاه الجزائريين في مختلف المواقف ولكن ضد الثورة؟ وما هي مواقف الصعبة مثل حرب التحرير ؟ هذه هي الأسئلة الأولية التي تسمح لنا بالتفكير في موضوع الجدل عن طريق الدينامية الخطابية. 1- Contexte et cadre de la recherche Ma communication se veut une réflexion globale sur la problématique de l'interdiscursivité journalistique qui ne peut être dissociée de celle de la polémique discursive imposant une dynamique cyclique d'accord et de confrontation. Albert Camus, journaliste et écrivain d'envergure internationale, n'a cessé d'affronter les divergences et les tensions politiques, qui ont agité les esprits- de la résistance à l'insurrection du 1er novembre 1954, du communisme soviétique au terrorisme. Il a réuni sous le titre Actuelles trois recueils d'articles, conférences et débats politiques représentant le bilan de ses prises de position face aux problèmes d'actualité de son temps. La polémique' se fait à l'intérieur de l'espace discursif concernant le conflit algérien- on ne parle pas encore de «Guerre d'Algérie»par rapport auquel les énonciateurs prennent des positionnements différents en fonction de leurs aspirations idéologiques. Pour illustrer cette idée, il est indispensable de tenir compte des controverses opposant Camus à ses contemporains... On pourrait déjà situer son intervention dans le réseau des positions polémiques, en raison de l'affrontement des conceptions sur ce thème.
Algeria Versus The United States

L’article revoit le développement de l’Accord de Paix entre l’Egypte et Israël durant la phase finale des négociations entre1977 et 1979 pour l’intérêt qu’il a suscité pour la diplomatie algérienne. Cet événement a remué les relations arabo-américaines dans toute leur profondeur. L’article met l’accent particulièrement sur les positions algériennes et américaines quand à leurs réactions à la situation de crise créée par l’entreprise du traité de paix générée essentiellement par le Président Sadat. Le traité s’est révélé graduellement comme un bradage gratuit des droits arabes au profit l’état sioniste. Cette donne politique allait contre les principes historiques de l’Algérie à défendre les intérêts arabes sans compromissions ou complaisance. En revanche, les Etats-Unis ont investi toute leur énergie diplomatique pour faire aboutir l’Accord de Paix en question et emporter cette bataille stratégique. Ainsi, l’article démontre le bien-fondé de l’approche algé- rienne telle que conçue par le Président Boumedienne et exécutée par Benjedid. ملخص يبــن هــذا البحــث ظهــور فكــرة ‘مبــادرة الســلام’ و تطورهــا الى معاهـدة سـلام بـن مـر وإسرائيـل. في محاولـة تعقـب مراحـل تلـك العمليــة. يوضــح البحــث أدوار المشــاركين الرئيســين في نمــو مســار السـلام و يركـز عـلى التغيـرات التـى حولـت مبـادرة السـلام تدريجيـا الى عمليــة استســلام بحكــم تقديــم تنــازلات أحاديــة مــن الجانــب المـصـري. بــرز دور الجزائــر بــن الــدول العربيــة في الفــترة الممتــدة مــن 1977إلى 1979لمعارضتهــا الشــديدة لخــروج مــر عــن الإطــار المــشرك فى الدفــاع عــن الحــق العــربي و الأراضى المســلوبة ســواء في عـهــد الرئيـس بومديـن أو الرئيـس بـن جديـد. و لهـذا ظهر الاخــتلاف المبـدئي و العملـي بـن الموقـف الجزائـري و موقـف الولايـات المتحـدة التـي أشرفـت عـلى تحقيـق معاهـدة السـلام المرية-الإسرائــيلية مـع مــا للموقــف الجزائــري مــن صحــة و حصافــة
Alphabétisation Ou Apprentissage D'une Langue Seconde ?

La conquête a engendré une très importante production discursive qui visait un savoir sur l’Algérie. C’est dans cette perspective que nous proposons une réflexion sur la problématique de l’altérité. Comment ces écrits expriment-ils l’altérité? Dans quels contextes d’énonciation, de narration et de description le font-ils ? Ce sont ces questions qui nous permettront d’appréhender les figures de l’altérité à travers l’espace social, les relations identitaires et les déterminations historiques.

„Die Hand der Fatima auf meiner Schulter“, „La Main de Fatma sur mon épaule“, sous titré „Images de Voyages D'Algérie“ se dévoile comme roman à plusieurs strates, temporalités et à étoffe complexe, qui laisse entrevoir en filigrane, et ce dès son « seuil » un texte autoreflexif. Partant d'un récit factuel et travaille de mémoire sur un séjour entre 1969-1973u, ainsi que d'une nostalgie, il déploie une métaphoricité multiple, celle d'un rêve de retrouvailles longtemps attendues. Il retisse une révision subversive et critique d'un catalogue abusé des récits de voyages et projette un discours parallèle, une double rencontre avec son « ombre double », « son autre soi même » jusque là refoulé. Ama Ata Aidoo, African Women’s Writings And Criticism

Abstract An examination of the existing scholarship on African women writers shows that the question of negotiating the Western definition of Feminism and the Afro-American Womanism is one of the crucial discussions in African women’s literature and criticism. However, this negotiation is hardly dealt with as an issue that can potentially lead to the re-evaluation of African women’s roles and status in contemporary Africa and the literary world scene, so as to break away from the nostalgia for pre-colonial women’s images and roles and to cast a critical eye on Western imported lifestyles. As social change occurs, women’s position in Africa is undergoing an ever changing redefinition especially when it is considered within the larger scope of nationalism. This article attempts to discuss the different concepts which are crucial to the Feminist/Womanist criticism and African women’s writings with a particular focus on Ama Ata Aidoo’s own view on what women writers’ commitment as well as women roles and positions, at large, should be. ملخص تتجلى لنا من خلال اطلاعنا على النقد الأدبي للكُتاب الأفارقة وخصوصا الكتابات النسوية أن إشكالية النقد الأدبي النسوي الأوروبي وكذا الأفروأمريكي يُعد من أهم القضايا التي يطرحها الكتاب الأفارقة وكذا النقد الأدبي النسوي، لكن معظم الكتاب النقاد لا يهتمون بدور المرأة في هذا النقاش و كذا توفيق المرأة بين ماضيها و حاضرها، و بين إطلاعاتها على المعاصرة، النمو والتحرر بدافع الروح الوطنية. هذا ما يسعى إليه هذا المقال، الذي من خلاله سنركز على آما آتا آيدو ونظرتها على دور الكاتبة الإفريقية في تطوير مكانة المرأة الإفريقية في النقد الأدبي ودورها في المجتمع المدني والسياسي بدافع الروح الوطنية.
American-algerian Relations In The 1990’s

مـلخص يهدف هذا البحث لكشف موقف الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية من الأزمة الجزائرية في تسعينيات القرن الماضى في الفترة 1992-1999. يركز البحث على الرّئيسان جورج بوش و بيل كلينتون و خصوصا ادارة كلينتون لطول عهدته الرئاسية. في المرحلة الأولى، كان بوش ينهي عامه الأخير في البيت الأبيض. لهذا، اتبع سياسة "التروىوالإنتظار" حتى رحيله فى جانفى 1993. في المرحلة الثانية، جاء كلينتون ليجد الوضع الجزائري متدهورا جدا. تشاءمت ادارة كلينتون لمستقبل الغامض للجزائر، لكنها اتبعت سياسة ‘عدم التدخل’ لإنشغالها بما هو أخطر. لقد دخلت وقتها أوروبا الشرقية، وتحديدا يوغوسلافيا، فى حروب أهلية تفاقمت خاصة في الفترة 1995-1999. لقد تطلب الأمر موافقة كلينتون على تدخل قوات الحلف الأطلسى (ناطو) لوقفها. عليه، اختار كلينتون سياسة تمتين العلاقات الإقتصادية الأمريكية-الجزائرية كأولوية لمساعدة الجزائر. Abstract This paper examines American policies regarding the political crisis that hit Algeria in the 1990’s.The article discusses how the Bush and the Clinton Administrations approached the Algerian civil strife from 1992 to 1999. The problem began under Bush, but worsened under Clinton. The United States had serious doubts about the future of the country because of the deteriorating conditions over the years. However, the Clinton Administration had even worse concerns about Eastern Europe; especially Yugoslavia in the period 1995-1999. In that world context, both presidents kept a hands-off policy in Algeria, but Clinton stood out more by focusing on bilateral economic relations to help the Algerian situation.

An Investigation Of The Use Of Icts By Efl Students At The University Of Algiers 2

ICTs in general and social networking in particular are having a significant impact on students’ performances today and teachers should acclimatise themselves to the requirements of ICT technology. In order to achieve a successful policy and practices of ICT in higher education, two parameters are required : The first parameter is to guarantee access to technology for learners and teachers and to develop their practical digital skills in the use of technology as a fundamental objective. The second one is to guarantee that both learners and teachers have aptitudes to understand, authenticate and decisively evaluate materials from a variety of suitable sources. The present article reports a study of part of the second parameter. It highlights the students’ relationship to new technologies. The study was carried out with 30 second year EFL students enrolled in the English Department of Algiers2 university. The research tool used is a questionnaire with four distinct sections: general information, students knowledge of computer software, use of software and attitudes towards ICT in learning and teaching. The data obtained were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings of the study revealed that firstly, the students of the English department have good knowledge of computer software. Secondly, they use more often ICTs for surfing on the net and communication. Finally, they think that the computer is an important tool for learning that can change the way they accede to knowledge. ملخص تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات بشكل عام والشبكات الاجتماعية على وجه الخصوص لها تأثير كبير على أداء الطلاب، ولذلك ينبغي على المعلمين التأقلم مع متطلباتهم. من أجل تشكيل عمل خطة وممارسة تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات الناجحة في التعليم العالي، لتحقيق هذا الهدف يجب تحقيق الشرطين التاليين : 1- ضمان الوصول إلى التكنولوجيا الحديثة للمتعلمين والمعلمين وتطوير المهارات العلمية في مجال استخدام التكنولوجيا باعتبارها من أساسيات حقوق الطالب. 2- ضمان أنّ كلا المتعلمين والمعلمين مستعدين للفهم والمصادقة وحسم تقييم المواد من مجموعة متنوعة من المصادر المناسبة. والقصد من الدراسة الحالية هي دراسة جزء من المعلمة الثانية، المذكورة أعلاه، فإنه يوضح علاقة الطالب مع التكنولوجيات الجديدة، لذا فإن الدراسة الحالية تعني 30 طالب في قسم اللغة الإنجليزية في جامعة الجزائر2. الأداة من هذه الدراسة هو الاستبيان التي لها أربعة أقسام متميزة. في الجزء الأول من الاستبيان، المدعى إعطاء المعلومات العامة الخاصة بهم، في القسم الثاني و نحن نحاول تقييم معرفتهم لبرامج الكمبيوتر. الجزء الثالث من الاستبيان له علاقة مع استخدام الطلاب البرمجيات لأغراض شخصية. وأخيرا، وصفنا مواقف بعض الطلاب نحو استخدام تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات في عملية التعليم والتعلم.

Dans le présent article, nous tenterons de comparer le système phonologique de la langue italienne avec celui de la langue arabe pour mieux comprendre les interférences phonologiques et les difficultés des étudiants à produire certains sons de la langue italienne. L’enseignant qui a des étudiants arabophones et qui désire assumer une posture interculturelle pourra, en s’inspirant de cette analyse, confronter la métalinguistique italienne avec celle de l’arabe pour mieux programmer son intervention didactique, C’est cette question que nous traitons à travers l’analyse des difficultés que peuvent générer les différences entre les deux systèmes linguistiques et auxquelles l’apprenant arabophone peut être confronté. ملخص في هـذه الدراسـة نحـاول تحليـل النظـام الصـوتي للغـة الايطاليـة ومقارنته بالنظـام الصـوتي للغـة العربيـة و هـذا لمحاولـة فهـم التداخل الصـوتي و الصعوبـات التـي تواجـه الطـلاب في إنتاج أصـوات معينـة و خاصـة باللغـة الإيطاليـة. أسـتاذ اللغـة الـذي لديـه طـاب معربـ و الـذي يـريد أن يتخـذ موقفـا بـن الثقافـات و يكون همـزه وصل بينهما يمكنه أن يقــارن كالنظاميــن الصوتيين ليبرمــج علــى أكفــأ وجــه خطتـه التعليميـه و تخطـي كل الصعوبـات التـي قد تصـادف الطلبـة

Con questo articolo intendiamo presentare l'approccio dell'analisi della conversazione, e metterne in evidenza la rilevanza per l'analisi dell'interazione verbale in un contesto specifico, quello dell'aula di lingua. La ricerca espone concetti teorici relativi al metodo utilizzato da questo approccio, nonché un'illustrazione diretta di questi concetti, al fine di svolgere uno studio sull'interazione che avviene nella classe di italiano come lingua straniera presso l'Università Blida2. Evidenzieremo anche il meccanismo di alternanza nel contesto istituzionale che costituisce la classe di lingua. Un contesto in cui c'è un'asimmetria in termini di diritti alla conversazione, tra l'insegnante e gli studenti algerini. The research exposes theoretical concepts related to the method used by this approach, as well as a direct illustration of these concepts, in order to carry out a study on the interaction that takes place in the class of Italian as a foreign language at Blida2 University . We will also highlight the mechanism of taking turns in the institutional context that constitutes the language class. A context where there is an asymmetry in terms of conversational rights, between the teacher and the Algerian learners.
Análisis Del Discurso En Yerma De Federico García Lorca

L’œuvre dramatique Yerma est incontestablement celle qui a imprégné le plus le parcours littéraire de Federico García Lorca. Un dramaturge du XXème siècle qui a marqué de son emprunte le mouvement théâtral espagnol et européen à l’aune d’une profonde mutation politique secouée par une montée du conservatisme primaire. Au-delà de sa portée politique, Yerma est avant tout une œuvre dramatique et un classique littéraire d’une beauté rare. Son analyse sémiologique dénote non seulement la complexité d’une œuvre harmonieuse, mais reflète aussi tout le génie de l’auteur qui se dévoile à travers le discours imprimé à l’œuvre. Sujet de cet article, intitulé « Lecture sémiologique du discours dans Yerma », le discours utilisé par Lorca dans son œuvre se singularise par une dichotomie en termes de genres, variablement employés tout au long du récit. Alternant proses et poésies, la structure du discours utilisé, au demeurant claire et esthétique, obéit à un processus de communication bien particulier. Son analyse suppose entre autres, le séquençage des discours des deux protagonistes (Yerma et Juan) ainsi que l’étude séparée des compositions lyriques (chansons et poêmes) et de la prose, en l’occurrence les dialogues et les indications scéniques. Introuducción : Incuestionablemente, la esencia de la obra poética lorquiana que examinamos, está en el embelesamiento de su discurso. Una de las marcas del discurso teatral en la pieza de Lorca es su enorme variedad, densidad y riqueza expresiva. Diestramente colocadas y armoniosamente repartidas en prosa y verso se encuentran así las imágenes y los símbolos en el drama lorquiano.
